Making a Room Safe for Children

The bedroom should be a safe sanctuary for your children. Infants and toddlers that play on the floor often are susceptible to injuries and environmental hazards.

However, with proper room maintenance and careful attention to the bedroom design, you can minimize the risks your children will face.

Here are some helpful tips to keep you in check.

1. Flooring

The type of flooring in your house will influence your quality of life. The list is endless with many varieties available in the market. The key factor to consider is the impact upon contact.

Laminate flooring is one of the popular kids’ option. They are perfect for parents who are budget conscious yet wanting to adopt a luxurious feel for their home. It is easy to clean to due to their protective overlay. Moreover, it is softer compared to natural wood since it's core is either made up of Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF) or High-Density Fibreboard (HDF). This helps to greatly reduce impact.

2. Carpets

Carpets are also great to keep your children safe. They are soft, durable and easy to maintain. Many of our carpet comes in tiles which promotes easy installation and cleaning.

Moreover, they are easy to replace in damaged sections, counteracting the more prevalent practice of ripping the entire carpeting. They are also a quieter option as it reduces noise, thus ideal for your kid's entertainment or games room.

Despite the feasibility of the carpets, it may be prone to trapping dust and allergens. As parents, it’s your utmost responsibility to know your child (allergies or illnesses) before considering if carpets are a great fit for your room.
