Clean Your Stress Away!

For a certain type of person, taking a few minutes to mop the floors of your living room can feel alike to the soothing effects of meditation. Even the sight of a spotless home—especially at the end of a long, stressful day—can temporarily seem to blunt whatever’s bothering them.

These people are not rare. According to a  survey of 2,000 adults released by OfferUp, 70% of Americans say tidying their home offers them a feeling of accomplishment, 61% say it makes them feel "destressed," and 54% say they experience "relaxation”.

There are a few explanations for why cleanliness translates to lower levels of stress and anxiety for you, says Darby Saxbe, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Southern California. “[Cleaning] gives people a sense of mastery and control over their environment,” she says. “Life is full of uncertainty and many situations are out of our hands, but at least we can assert our will on our living space. Clutter can be visually distracting, too, and serve as a nagging reminder of tasks and chores undone.” (Referenced from

By having less clutter, it is more visually appealing to the eyes and encourage you to deal with your chores. All of us are already dealing with a lot in our mind and now we’re looking at a lot of dust in our home or office spaces, it can make us feel stuck and tied down.
